This workshop will bring together various experts to explore spiritual companionship with the LGBTQIA+ community. This webinar is open to all spiritual directors and spiritual companions who are providing or who seek to provide spiritual companionship to the LGBTQIA+ community.
This 4-week online webinar series, designed for spiritual directors and companions, offers an experiential introduction to spiritual companionship with the LGBTQIA+ community.
You’ll learn about the current context of the LGBTQIA+ community, learn about common terminology, explore models of adult spiritual development for the LGBTQIA+ community, explore the gifts of the LGBTQIA+ community, and realize new ways to accompany clients who may identify as LGBTQIA+.
Our presenter, Rev. Larry J. Morris III, is a spiritual director, and will be joined by other spiritual companions, Joel Kushner, Bradley Leger, and Nicholas Literski, who support the spiritual lives of LGBTQIA+ people.
- Participants from all sexual orientations, religions, and spiritual traditions are welcome in this webinar series.
- Each session runs 90 minutes.
- All sessions will be recorded and be viewable for at least 12 months after the last session goes live.
This webinar series is an invitation to:
- Increase your knowledge and capacity for companioning clients who identify as LGBTQIA+
- Continue to develop cultural competence for the LGBTQIA+ community.
- Engage LGBTQIA+ spiritual companions on topics such as: "coming out" and "inviting in", common challenges clients face integrating sexuality and spirituality, gifts of the LGBTQIA+ community
- Learn how to set up a practice that is open and affirming of a variety of sexual identities
- Learn and techniques to accompany clients who may identify as LGBTQIA+ in a meaningful way that facilitates healing
- Realize new ways to expand your spiritual companioning practice to support the LGBTQIA+ community
- Discover models that help clients journey towards integrating their sexuality and spirituality
Course Description
Session 1 (October 28, 1 PM Seattle time)
Working Towards Developing Cultural Competency ― Session 1: will focus on developing LGBTQIA+ cultural competency. Larry will be joined by Joel Kushner and they will lead participants through an engaging training and conversation on the skills needed to authentically support the LGBTQIA+ community. Learn about common terminology
Session 2 (November 4, 1 PM Seattle time)
Stages of Adult Spiritual Development for LGBTQIA+ ― Session 2: will focus on models of adult spiritual development for LGBTQIA+ people. Larry will be joined by Bradley A. Leger who will provide a framework and model for supporting LGBTQIA+ clients. Participants will explore what clients might experience in each stage and develop a list of curiosities and questions to support the companioning relationship.
Session 3 (November 11, 1 PM Seattle time)
Gifts of the LGBTQIA+ Community ― Session 3: will focus on the gifts of LGBTQIA+ clients and companions. Larry will be joined by Nicholas Literski and will explore how LGBTQIA+ help us to experience the Divine and community in unique ways.
Session 4 (November 18, 1 PM Seattle time)
Practical Application and Best Practices ― Session 4: will focus on best practices and practical ways to support LGBTQIA+ clients. Learn how to build a practice that is intentionally inclusive to the LGBTQIA+ community or realize new ways to expand your existing practice to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Rev. Larry J. Morris III
Rev. Larry J. Morris III is a practicing spiritual director, apostle, scholar, and digital marketing professional with experience in branding, public relations, social media, and content creation, having supported nonprofits and social enterprises for over 15 years. He has a BS in Psychology at Alliant International University, an MDiv and MTS from the Claremont School of Theology, and is currently a Ph.D. student at Christian Theological Seminary. He is the founder and apostle of Communion Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Henderson, NV., and his research interests are at the intersections of race, sexuality, and sacred rhetoric. - Each session will run 90 minutes. We understand that the timing of the seminar will not be convenient in every time zone on the planet. For those who have trouble making this time, a recorded copy of each session will be made available to all those who sign up.
- CEU credits are available for all those who participate. SDI will provide a certificate of completion for self-reporting to agencies. More information can be found here: continuing education units (CEUs).
