Spiritual direction can be an important relationship where people explore the spiritual dimension of addiction and recovery including the impact on partners, friends, family, and relationship with the Divine. Twelve-step recovery programs have always been explicitly spiritual, particularly Step 11, which emphasizes the use of prayer and meditation to deepen one’s conscious contact with God.
There are many different spiritual perspectives about the epidemic of addictions, viewing it as a response to individual and collective trauma, a disease, or a reaction to the prohibition in Western culture against experiences of non-ordinary transcendent states of consciousness. In this webinar, we will explore a basic understanding of addiction, codependency, and spirituality including the relationship between trauma, spirituality, and addiction, and discuss possible ways to explore these in spiritual direction. We will draw on culturally diverse resources from a variety of racial, ethnic, religious, spiritual, and gender perspectives.
This webinar is specifically designed for experienced spiritual directors and soul care providers, using interactive teaching, somatic awareness, meditation, and experiential practice.
