The Contemplative
Dimensions of Spiritual Direction and Companionship
with Dr. James Finley
Presenter
Dr. James Finley
Date and Time
Recorded on October 24, 2023
Duration
Approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes (due to Breakout Rooms which are not part of the Recording)
In the first of a series of periodic addresses to the SDI community on spiritual direction and companionship, Jim Finley will speak to the contemplative and mystical roots of our calling, and why they are so important. In our time together Jim Finley will begin by helping us to understand and appreciate the contemplative dimensions of the gentle art of spiritual direction. We will then turn to passages in the writings of the mystics that help us to discern the signs that in our contemplative sensitives are leading us and those coming to us for spiritual direction into more mystical, non-dual states of experiencing God’s presence in our lives. We will reflect on passages in the writings of the mystics that offer trustworthy guidance in learning from God how to cooperate with God’s transformative divinizing dimensions of spiritual awakening and fulfillment. We will end by noting the connection between mystical awakenings, social justice, the corporate works of mercy and the holiness of everyday life. Time will be given for questions and discussion of the themes presented.
