TRAVEL AND SAFETY

SDI will follow all national or provincial guidelines related to COVID-19, and will adhere to any local restrictions or recommendations that are in place in January 2025.

Visit the CDC page for the latest Travel Health Information related to your travel.

U.S. citizens should always practice good personal security and situational awareness. Be aware of your surroundings. This includes local customs and etiquette. Keep a low profile. Monitor local news reports, vary routes and times in carrying out daily activities, and consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, and when choosing hotels, restaurants, and entertainment and recreation venues.

India intermittently experiences terrorist and insurgent activities which may affect U.S. citizens directly or indirectly. Some U.S.-designated terrorist groups are active in India, including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e Tayyiba. The U.S. government occasionally receives information regarding possible terrorist attacks that could take place in India, monitors such information to determine credibility, and advises U.S. citizens accordingly. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive messages from the Embassy automatically.

We will be led by highly experienced guides.

For the most up-to-date-information, visit the US State Department’s Travel Advisory page, or its equivalent in the country of your origin.

A valid passport for the duration of your time in India is required, as well as a tourist visa. To come as a general visitor, you must be able to show that:

  • you are eighteen or older;
  • you intend to visit India for no more than three months;
  • you intend to leave India at the end of your visit;
  • you have enough money to support and accommodate yourself on your trip.

For other situations and more detailed information, please visit the US State Department webpage on India or check with the Indian embassy in your home country to verify visa requirements.

English will be spoken throughout this journey. When translation is necessary, the guides will be able to interpret in English.

The Indian currency is called the Indian Rupee (INR). One Rupee consists of 100 Paise. The symbol of the Indian Rupee is ₹. The design resembles both the Devanagari letter “₹” (ra) and the Latin capital letter “R”, with a double horizontal line at the top.

You must declare currency over USD $5,000 at entry. Please check with the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. if you are planning to carry a large amount of currency or gold into India.

Check local law for rules on reporting large amounts of foreign currency and Indian rupees when leaving.

All of the major credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, Access, Eurocard, and American Express are widely accepted and can be used to draw funds from ATMs with your pin code. MasterCard and Visa are the most commonly accepted in Israel.

At the same time, many smaller operations and open market vendors only accept cash, so it’s advisable to carry cash with you.

Wear comfortable clothing. In January, New Delhi experiences winter with relatively cool temperatures. Here are some clothing suggestions to ensure you stay comfortable:

Daytime:
– Light Sweater or Jacket: Daytime temperatures can range from 14°C to 20°C (57°F to 68°F). A light sweater or jacket is usually sufficient.
– Long-Sleeve Shirts: Comfortable long-sleeve shirts or tops.
– Jeans or Trousers: These are practical and provide warmth.
– Comfortable Footwear: Closed-toe shoes or sneakers to keep your feet warm and comfortable for walking.

Evening:
– Warmer Jacket or Coat: Evenings can get cooler, with temperatures dropping to 7°C to 10°C (45°F to 50°F). A warmer jacket or coat will be necessary.

General Tips:
– Layers: Wearing layers is key, as it allows you to adjust to varying temperatures throughout the day.
– Don’t forget to carry a hat, cap and sunglasses.
-Goa is a beach destination. Don’t forget to pack for a relaxing restorative day at the beach.

Local cafes and hotels are likely spots to connect to free wifi networks. You can also purchase a local SIM card or an International Plan to use your smart phone in Israel.

Trip insurance is strongly recommended. Please visit one of the various websites such as www.travelguard.com or www.insuremytrip.com

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the main airport serving the region surrounding Delhi.

The airport is about a 45-minute drive from the city centre.

All U.S. citizens need a valid passport as well as a valid Indian visa or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card to enter and exit India for any purpose. India may deny entry to travelers without valid documents or the correct type of visa. Indian visa rules and instructions change often. They often do so with little warning. Travelers should check the website of the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. before any travel to India to review the most current information. The U.S. Embassy and Consulates General in India cannot assist you if you arrive without proper documentation.

U.S. citizens seeking to enter India solely for tourist purposes for stays of less than 60 days may apply for an eVisa at least four days before their arrival. Please visit the Indian government’s website for electronic travel authorization for more information and to submit an application visit the Bureau of Immigration’s website.

Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond date of tourist visa application to obtain a visa.

Travelers must enter with a visa in their passport. The visa is valid for 10 years for U.S. citizens. Or they can use an e-tourist visa, which varies in validity. Note that the Indian authorities issue visas with dates in the DD/MM/YY format.

SDI is not responsible for providing any travel documents to any of our destinations, including visas. It is the sole responsibility of the traveler to confirm with the consulate of each country visited, about any necessary travel documentation/visas required to enter these countries.

Travelers arriving from an infected area must have a yellow fever vaccination. Others are suggested.

These are not covered in the package fee, and each participant is fully responsible for their purchase, as well as compliance with all applicable airline requirements.

Luggage is the responsibility of the passenger/s and that of the airlines. For lost/delayed luggage claims, the passenger is responsible for notifying the airline directly. If a travel insurance policy was purchased, all damage/loss must be reported at time of incident and documented in writing by local authorities for submission to the insurance company. As all airlines differ and restrictions change periodically, we recommend that you call the airline directly with questions about your baggage allowance. SDI shall not be held responsible for any delay or damage to or loss of luggage and/or personal items.

If the tour services as indicated by the itinerary cannot be supplied or there are changes in the itinerary for reasons beyond the control of SDI we will arrange for provision of comparable services.  SDI reserves the right to make changes in the itinerary whenever SDI deems it necessary to the comfort, convenience and safety of the participant at any time.
