In the busyness of serving others, we can overlook our own deep needs, until we find ourselves in a season of drought and weariness.
As spiritual companions, we desire to be present for others and offer our wholehearted listening. Yet sometimes the river runs dry. In the busyness of serving others, we can overlook our own deep needs, until we find ourselves in a season of drought and weariness.
Spiritual journaling can be a powerful way to allow the “waters” of our souls to refill. Through the act of honest, intentional writing, we can invite Spirit to renew and replenish us, so that our waters once again overflow and we can serve others from a place of abundance and joy.
If you’d like to explore journaling as a practice of deep renewal and replenishment, please join Colette Lafia and Jenée Johnson for a two-session journaling retreat. Throughout our sessions, we’ll engage in spiritual journaling using writing prompts from poetry, music, images and embodied practices.
We will write, reflect, and share our words in a contemplative community that respects everyone’s individual expression and trusts that we always write what we need to write.
This webinar series will:
- Help you cultivate greater self-compassion through understanding your own desires and needs
- Reconnect you to the joy of Spirit flowing through you to support others
- Give you spiritual journaling tools that you can use for yourself and bring to those you companion
Sessions
Session 1: Deep Listening: Naming Where You Are, Awakening Renewal
We begin by allowing journal writing to be a time to pause and practice deep listening with ourselves. What do we need? What spaces within us have become arid? What are we thirsty for? With tender compassion, we hold the areas that need replenishment and discern ways to nourish ourselves. In this first session, we will use a series of journaling exercises to listen and identify where we are and imagine what renewal might look like.
Session 2: Meeting the Place of Joy and Connection
In this second session, we take time to write about and identify what cultivates joy within us, such as inspiration, appreciation, delight. Joy is an optimal state that nourishes our capacity to be present and have fulfilling connections. We will explore harvesting joy, and what it looks like to be of service to others from this abundant space. How do we ground our vocation in joy and connection? We will use a series of writing prompts to find this space within ourselves and allow it to become an ongoing source of renewal as we live into our vocations.
